Matt Varga Radical takes on running shoes is a concept we’ve come to readily associate with New Balance, but it’s genuinely a wave that’s taken over all the market’s biggest players. For ASICS, many of the most creative takes on that have come from Kiko Kostadinov, but don’t discount their inline designers’ ability to make a strong impression. Such is the case with the ASICS GT-2160 SE Sandal, hitting the market in three introductory colorways.
The general shape of the shoe remains, including keeping the sole unit intact, but within the lines there’s a ton of changes that help this shoe meet a more amphibious lean. The tongue and sock-liner swap into neoprene, the laces switch to a gorpcore pull closure, and breathable cut-outs appear just below the collar and underneath the Tiger logo at the quarter of either side. All of these speaks to a repurposed construction that almost reminds of something that’d come out of Nike ACG in years past. For this initial delivery, the brand keeps to its techy trademarks, rolling out “White/Pure Silver,” “Black/Pure Silver,” and “White/Pure Silver/Illusion Blue” colorways.
Official images of the ASICS GT-2160 SE Sandal surfacing in this week is an indication that a release should only be a few weeks away. Retail pricing for the “new” model hasn’t yet come about. While we await more concrete details, enjoy detailed looks at all three pairs included below.
