In the realm of Jordan collecting, no subtitle holds more weight than “OG.” Dropping during the very first run of the Air Jordan 5, the “Grape” is every bit of deserving of the moniker despite not sporting black/red Bulls coloring, a hallmark of most MJ releases at the time of its debut. Screaming 1990s design with a purple and teal combination (here’s looking at you, Grandmama), the sweetened color combination has become one of the most iconic of the AJ5 as a whole, leading to Jordan to re-release and remix its hallmarks time and time again.

The first retro release came during 2006’s “LS” era, but swapped the Nike Air text for the Jumpman. Those who missed out would get another chance 2007, but the same branding “miscue” was intact, representative of a time when Nike was far more precious with the “Air” stamp than they currently are. Case in point, the 2025 edition, reprising the collector-coveted “Nike Air” embroidery on the heel and aiming at recreating the original shoe’s construction. Unless you’ve got past retro releases in the tuck or were sated by off-shoots sprinkled in between (“Black Grape” in 2013, “Fresh Prince” in 2018, or “Alternate Grape” in 2020), this is a shoe that’s been a long time coming.
