Andrew Rizzo Word to Isabel Marant; PUMA is reminding us of one of the 2010s’ most divisive sneaker trends with a wedged version of the Speedcat.
The Speedcat is PUMA’s trendiest model and has largely been anointed the latest “it shoe” following the adidas Samba. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen PUMA give it a total re-imagination, with the brand recently popping out with a Mary Jane style called the Speedcat Ballet earlier this year. This wedged version, meanwhile, oozes 2010s nostalgia with an updated high-top shape, padded collar, and strap over the forefoot. It’s an aesthetic we’ve seen quietly return to high-fashion runways in recent seasons, though it’s not as prevalent as the previously-covered balletcore genre.
Four Speedcat Wedge colorways have been uncovered as of this writing, starting with tonal brown and tan suede styles. We’ve also got a black suede pair featuring a white Formstrip, as well as a white leather edition featuring a suede Formstrip and brown hits on the lining/sole.
