Denim is suddenly inescapable in Beaverton, but especially for the Jumpman. Without the Levi’s stamp, it’s hard for any shoe to hit the exit velocity of that three-pack, but teaming up with the Americana brand was clearly a bellwether for Jordan. In the years since, we’ve seen the Air Jordan 6 and two versions of the Air Jordan 1 drop with the hardened fabric, yet certainly a return to “where it all begin” makes for the most significant headline.
Indeed, even looking beyond the comprehensive denim treatment on this Air Jordan 4, it’s hard to ignore the similarities between this mainline pair and that collab. A gum sole underfoot stands as the most obvious tie. However, this shoe sets apart by embracing the full spectrum of dungarees, wearing dark blue mudguards and eyelet wings on the lateral side before shifting to a lighter wash around the collar and comprehensively on the lateral. Golden lace dubraes add one final regal detail while a special edition shoebox stamps down the “Canadian Tuxedo” motif.
