The brand’s next big basketball torch, set to carry the torch of canonized brand ambassadors and current execs Allen Iverson and Shaquille O’Neal, has already been in the spotlight plenty to showcase the Engine 1. While that silhouette was noteworthy for being the Boston brand’s first hoops innovation in a number of years, no doubt more eyes will be fixed on their headquarters and the Chicago Sky star for this next move, the release of the Reebok Angel Reese 1.
The narrative threads here no doubt focus on turning the external noise into internal motivation. That’s perhaps exemplified by a black and white “Receipts Ready” turning that ink and paper concept literal with a darkened interior and snow white exteriors. Then it’s onto the “Mebounds,” cheekily flipping supposed lowlights into a personal monopoly that Reese has established on the boards. Those who tuned into the W’s July festivities will clock this as the All-Star colorway. To round out the trio, the “Diamond Dust,” which was on tap for our first look at the model, heads in a straightforward direction, capitalizing on the cleaned-up all white that’s been a reliable formula for basketball shoes for generations.
Of course, the aesthetics only count if the shoe performs, and Reebok promises satisfaction on that end. First up is the ERS midsole, first leaping onto the hardwood for the Engine 1, offering a three-pronged package of cushioning, stability, and energy return. The molded Exoskeleton upper adds containment and support, while high-abrasion rubber handles the traction underfoot.
All three colorways of the Reebok Angel Reese 1 discussed here touch down on September 18th for the silhouette’s debut. On offer in unisex sizing, the shoe clocks in with a $120 retail price.
