Matt Varga Nike’s recent efforts in running have been incredibly celebrated, lauded for simplifying their various verticals and pumping out heavily-cushioned, tech-forward versions their performance icons. Beaverton themselves have continued to celebrate their running history for as long as they’ve been in the game — the two now collide with a spotlight of their nascent era on the shoes that’ll define their next.
While many of the kicks featured here had already surfaced via official images, granting us insight into this “worlds collide concept,” this official announcement doubtless allows some additional context. We’ll clearly outline the mashups: the Vaporfly 4 takes on the primary colors of the Pre Montreal spike, the Alphafly 3 borrows the split orange and green from the Nike String, the Pegasus 41 apes the Waffle Racer’s hi-vis green, and the Vomero 18, its colorway first revealed within this press blast, grabs the sunny look of the LD-1000.
The various performance aspects of the silhouettes featured in this pack are intentionally rangy , spread across true marathon speeds and everyday training aspects — thus it’s no shock that the forebears of that family are equally diverse. Though this motif would be suitable without any additional layers, the “International Running Pack” aspect makes it all the more natural: “We wanted to meet Japanese runners’ appreciation for vintage styles by looking into our archive,” says Katsunobu Asayama, lead designer of these offerings.
The Nike International Running Pack, including the shoes appearing throughout this piece and an accompanying apparel collection, first touches down on August 30th at UNION RUNNING DEPT. BY NIKE in Tokyo. A wider Japanese launch follows on September 5th, while a global release via nike.com and retailers is queued up for September 10th. The footwear ranges from $150 to $295.
