Nike Vomero Premium “Sail” Launches In October

There was a time when the running shoe industry was obsessed with getting as close to the ground as possible because sports research informed it to be. In recent years, those learnings have been forgotten as midsole stacks are getting higher and higher. Is a running shoe even a running shoe if it doesn’t have a mega-thick cushion?

While it seemed that Nike was avoiding that trend, the upcoming Vomero Premium shows that they just wanted to get it right. There’s really no shoe in Nike Running history that can rival the Vomero Premium’s shockingly tall 55mm stack height. The Swoosh didn’t want just the look, but it wanted the feel. The thick and plush ZoomX foam with visible Zoom Air pods that compress and expand acts as the “super-shoe” platform for the Vomero Premium, the highest-ranking of the Vomero vertical.

Our favorite feature is, undeniably, the “AIR” markings on the upper. It makes an unexpected connection with the Air More Uptempo, a mega-popular basketball shoe from 1996 made famous by Scottie Pippen. That retro basketball shoe and the new Vomero Premium don’t really have an apparent link outside of possessing some of the most eye-catching soles in Swoosh history.

The Vomero Premium has been heavily reviewed in the running community since it debuted in June of this year. The wait is almost over: an official release date is confirmed for October 2nd at select retailers and globally on October 16th. MSRP is set at $220.

When is the Nike Vomero Premium releasing?

The Vomero Premium is launching on October 2nd at select retailers, and October 16th at global retailers. The men’s colorway is this Sail/Coconut Milk/Total Orange, while the women’s version can be seen HERE.

What’s new with the Nike Vomero Premium?

The Vomero Premium boasts a 55mm stack height, making it one of the tallest sneakers in Nike Running history. It follows a trend of running shoes with very thick soles. Nike has added ZoomX foam and visible Zoom Air pods to their soles, combining innovation with aesthetics.
