It’s not quite time to take stock of the biggest moments in sneakers (for us, at least), but we can comfortably call the Old Skool 36 one of the surprise winners of this year to date. The “Souvenir” capsule, first in “Warm Brown” and then in “Burgundy,” speed-ran its way to mythical status, continuing a run of coveted modern colorways started by Satoshi Nakamoto.
Though the 2024 edition remains the grand prize on secondary markets, a reprise in June has already hit escape velocity in its own right, as have inline “takedowns” that utilize the same pearlized atmosphere as those joint efforts. The saga continues as the California company reveals two new delicate chapters — the Vans Old Skool 36 “Pearlized” in white and in pink. Only one promo shot of either shoe has been revealed so far, but expect similar hallmarks from the preceding steps: alternating silver and white gems run through the toe and SideStripe. As far as color options, the pink captures throwback grungy airs with black paneling and contrast stitching, while the white only interrupts its dominant shading with a stripe of black in the sole unit.
We’re paying special attention to the verbiage in Vans’ announcement — obviously, ComplexCon will be the first chance to get your hands on the Old Skool 36 “Pearlized,” but we’re expecting a wider drop to follow.
