It’s been a long time coming. On the back of what has to be touching 100 colorways of Devin Booker’s first signature shoe under the Swoosh, the anticipation for the follow-up reached a fever pitch, no doubt intensified by a lifespan that ran over the course of two seasons. Behind the scenes, as dozens of colorways for the Book 1 hit the public and even more hit the newswire—either on Devin’s feet or via additional player-exclusive efforts—trust and believe that the Nike Book 2 was well underway.
As he and the Phoenix Suns head north to take on Nike’s hometown Trail Blazers, it makes for a perfect opportunity to unveil the Nike Book 2, both in person for media and for the public, on foot via the man himself. Taking cues from classic cars isn’t just a piece of a mood board for this shoe. As lead designer Ben Nethongkome shared, “Book 1 started with the idea of Restomod, of cars that are rebuilt with the engine supercharged with an outside that’s very classic. That approach cascaded over to the 2 as well; we’re cloaking the innovation.”
What tech features does the Nike Book 2 have?
On the interior, the core shift is pushing the Zoom unit to the forefoot, previously embedded below the heel in the predecessor. Cushlon 3.0 midsoles and molded uppers round out a tuned tech package. Devin and the design team intended to “trim the fat a little bit, make the shoe a little bit sleeker,” further detailing that “a big thing for [Devin] was feeling the court more, being a bit closer to the ground.” Reduced profile and weight (5% compared to the previous model) aim to accomplish just that.

On the outside, the Suns star’s connection to Nike’s catalog shines; the most obvious touchpoint is the Zoom Spiridon, recently revived in the Swoosh mainline and lending both its straightforward sole design as well as the spindly containment that pokes through the model. Booker additionally cited the Nyjah 2, another model that made overtures to Christian Tresser’s design, Steve Nash’s Cradle Rock, and the Air Force 1 as inspirations.
In the homages to the Uptown, astute viewers and readers will be able to pick out the overarching motif of the literal sun, inspiring a reinterpretation of the AF1’s concentric traction with radial, star-like herringbone. In place of the actual stars that Swoosh wearers have seen on Bruce Kilgore’s design for a generation, cactus needles circle back to the desert concepts that began to take root in public colorways within the past year.
When and what to expect from the Nike Book 2
For those looking ahead to what color stories will play on the Nike Book 2, expect a smooth handoff from this current page to the next. A blackened, charred edition will close the Book 1 before the Book 2 “Rising” and Book 2 “Phoenix” literally make good on their titles. And while further looks are under wraps, expect much of the creativity we’ve seen to date to branch over; BYU coach Kevin Young has already requested PEs for his squad, flips of iconic Nike shoes are in the works (including nods to the OG Spiridon), and some limited editions are confirmed.
When does the Nike Book 2 come out?
The Nike Book 2 is due out on January 2nd, 2026 for $145. They will release alongside an apparel collection hand-designed by Booker and representing those sun-bleached themes. Catch images of the shoe included throughout this piece.
