A Nike Total Foamposite Max Retro Is Coming

One of the most-requested retros over the last decade could be returning soon. Frank Cooke of Nike first hinted at the possibility if Nike Total Foamposite Max retro on his Instagram Stories, posting an image of the oval-shaped logo housing of the late-1990s silhouette. Not long after, he responded to a community member by reposting an image of the shoes with “Heard”. This isn’t a confirmation of a return, but given Cooke’s role at the Swoosh, his chiming in indicates that something is in the works. Update: After posting this story on our Instagram, Frank Cooker confirms that a re-release is indeed in the works.

The Nike Total Foamposite Max debuted in 1998 and is most commonly associated with Tim Duncan. The first-ever Foamposite basketball shoe with visible Air, this model was a continuation of the Air Foamposite series, offering a more streamlined upper, a full-length visible Air Max unit, and an embedded Zoom Air unit. The shoes were heavy and clunky and had all the ingredients of being a lifestyle hit.

This silver/black version is the most recognizable as the original, but there are a few more gems from the later years that hold plenty of weight in the sneaker community. Nike re-released the shoes in the mid-2000s, offering a university blue/white, all-black, and brown/tan work-boot iteration. Later, the Total Foamposite Max had another Retro cycle in 2011-2012. That was the last time Nike brought the shoes to market.

It’s curious to see what the pricing for a shoe of this build will have in 2026. Back in 2011, the Total Foams carried a whopping $225 MSRP, and given how Air Foamposite Ones are marked at $240, there’s no telling what the sticker price for these would be in the modern day.

Stay tuned for updates; the return of the Total Foamposite Max is a event we’ll be following closely.
