“Restoring the feeling” is a concept that gets thrown around a lot in the Jordan Brand fanbase, no doubt accelerated by the fact that some of the imprint’s most bankable assets are so heavily steeped in nostalgia. If that playbook tends to hit home with you, we’d expect the latest headline to come out of that side of things to be an exciting one, as the Y2K wave now influences packaging details.
The silver “face box” is now confirmed to return for several 2026 Retro releases, reviving a touch that defined Jumpman product that landed between 2001 and 2005. While sneakerheads who cut their teeth in the 2010s may be familiar with stripped-down packaging with their purchases, now most commonly associated with the simplistic Jumpman-on-black boxes, this chrome-top flip box continued a run of peripherals that frontlined Mike’s legacy and often Mike himself.
Notably, that was true for the Air Jordan 16 in its initial run, but also defined plenty of retro drops over that span. 2001’s Air Jordan 11 “Bred” (or “Playoffs”), 2002’s Air Jordan 7 “Raptors” (or “Playoffs”), and 2003’s Air Jordan 8 “Bugs Bunny” each carried this touch. While the dark variation defined the Air Jordan 3 and Air Jordan 4 “Rare Air” in 2025, this particular variation makes its grand re-entrance for the year following.
There’s no hard confirmation on which shoes may carry this out, but given Jordan Brand’s increased attention to OG aesthetics, the Air Jordan 9 “Flint Grey” and Air Jordan 13 “Cherry” present the likeliest candidates, having dropped off either earnest retros or modified variations in that original span.
