There are only a handful of sports franchises that maintain their “aura” no matter what. The Los Angeles Lakers are one of them, backed by seventeen championships (second only to the Celtics) earned across eras spanning Jerry West to LeBron James and myriad other legends in between.
Come March 2026, Jordan Brand will release an Air Jordan 4 “Lakers” featuring a subtle nod to classic Showtime colors. Official images of the Grade School version show an Imperial Purple upper, speckled yellow Nike Air text on the heel, yellow insoles, and a yellow Jumpman logo on the tongue. The rest of the design incorporates black, grey, and off-white. Moreover, the sneaker comes packaged in the classic Jordan face shoebox along with a hangtag and sticker reading “we outside.”
While this is technically a “Lakers” colorway on paper, the sneaker is admittedly pretty far removed from the iconic golden-yellow and bright purple associated with the franchise. The Imperial Purple color skews closer to navy or indigo, thus the shoe could easily be interpreted as more “Michigan” than “Lakers” depending on the eye of the beholder.
The Jordan 4 “Lakers” aka “Imperial Purple” is expected to release March 2026, though an early drop during All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles is possible. Full family sizing is anticipated.
