After a sold-out release of the Vans Old Skool Pearlized edition, the classic silhouette continues its strong run by revisiting one of its most recognizable motifs: the Flames graphic. A staple of Vans’ early visual identity, the fiery pattern has long been associated with skate culture’s rebellious edge, resurfacing periodically as a nostalgic nod.
The difference now is that the Old Skool has managed to regain a spot on the current list of most-wanted sneakers. This latest execution dodges the typical re-issue, instead arriving with a pre-aged aesthetic. Scuffed midsoles, slightly dingy uppers, rabid stitch marks, and even a worn-in take on the iconic side stripe give the shoes a broken-in feel that has since dominated the retro footwear market.
