Andrew Rizzo Devin Booker’s Nike contact stays busy. Real busy. The Phoenix Suns guard continues to trot out more PEs than just about anyone in the game, most recently taunting the Chicago Bulls with a Nike Book 2 inspired by his favorite team growing up.
Booker wasn’t around to witness the Pistons’ “Bad Boys” era in real time, but stories of Isiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer, and Dennis Rodman tormenting Michael Jordan in the late ’80s and early ’90s traveled far and wide, including to his hometown of Grand Rapids. The Pistons were, of course, the team MJ had to get past to win his first ring, knocking him and the Bulls out of the playoffs in back-to-back seasons with an aggressive, physical style defined by hard fouls in the paint, hence the “Bad Boys” nickname.
This Nike Book 2 PE draws from the “Bad Boys” logo created in 1988 by Detroit native Billy Berris, featuring a skull-and-crossbones over an orange basketball. That same logo appears on the lateral heel here, with Book’s name replacing the usual “Detroit Bad Boys” text. Black hairy suede covers the upper, complemented by metallic orange Swooshes and a cracked grey finish across the midsole. The context matters, too, as Book broke these out against the Bulls in Chicago.
