After debuting as an ultra-limited release during the NBA Finals through Nike’s New York City activation across from Madison Square Garden and a special Foot Locker x Nike truck, the Jalen Brunson Nike Kobe 5 Protro “NY vs. NY” is now set for a broader launch on August 4th, giving basketball fans outside of New York their first opportunity to purchase the coveted colorway.
Over a month after the Knicks’ championship run, the city’s basketball energy is still at a high point, and Knicks guard and NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson has emerged as a bonafide league superstar. His popularity has skyrocketed following the Finals, more than doubling his Instagram following and further fueling interest in anything connected to New York hoops culture.
Inspired by Nike’s long-running NY vs. NY streetball tournament, the Kobe 5 Protro honors one of the country’s premier summer basketball traditions while celebrating Kobe Bryant’s enduring connection to the game at every level. What began as one of the season’s most difficult pairs to secure now becomes considerably more attainable, though demand is still expected to be exceptionally high.
Currently, select retailers in the NYC area have confirmedthat the Nike Kobe 5 Protro “NY vs. NY” will release on August 4th for $190 through raffles and/or in-store events.
