Throughout its 19-year history, Nike SB has brought a myriad of objects, figures and places to sneaker-form – either on its own or with the help of collaborators from all-over the world. For its latest effort, the imprint has traveled to Greece to create the Nike SB Dunk High “Kebab & Destroy” with Color Skates.
Founded in 2008 and situated in Athens, Color Skates has been at the heart of Greece’s skateboarding scene. For its first Nike SB collaboration, the shop has looked to its surroundings for the inspiration: the gyro kebab. The food item is stamped on both sock-liners and embroidered onto each shoe’s medial heel, but its color palette also informs the rest of the high-top SB Dunk. Pita-reminiscent tans take over much of the forefoot and lace guards in suede fashion, while the pristine white leather on the toe box represents tzatziki sauce. Hits of red throughout the laces and profile swooshes nod to the fresh tomatoes found in the Greek-favorite, but they’re unquestionably overshadowed by the brown elephant print that appears on the ankle flaps and bottom heel overlay meant to stand-in for the dish’s meat. Lastly, Color Skates adds its name onto the tongue label, and its colorful “C” logo onto the lateral heel.
