Giannis Antetokounmpo and his NIKE, Inc. family announced the Nike Zoom Freak 3 ahead of Game 4 of the 2020-21 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, which could have put the Greek forward and his Milwaukee Bucks squad in a favorable 3-1 lead. As fate would have it, #34 suffered a knee injury that had him sit out the rest of the game and watch as his team ended the night with a 110-88 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.
While it’s uncertain whether or not Antetokounmpo will miss the remainder of the Playoffs, what’s guaranteed is that his third signature sneaker with the Swoosh is on the way. Two launch colorways – “Project 34” (black/purple) and “Freak” (orange) – are set to arrive to stockists on July 1st, while a newly-surfaced aqua and purple option is expected to launch in the coming months. Visually, the model departs from the Zoom Freak 2 and its predecessor, while proffering a design and tooling catered to Giannis’ signature Euro step. A lockdown strap across the forefoot works in-tandem with Zoom Air units and a multi-directional outsole for responsiveness, energy absorption and security when closing the gap between body and basket.
