While the black/white colorway is the most known of the bug-eyed classic, the Zoom Flight 95 actually dropped in a number of colorways back in the mid-1990s. Set to arrive later this year is one such OG — the “True Red” version worn by an improbable NBA Dunk Contest winner in 1996.
The LA Clippers guard, son of NBA legend Rick Barry, took home the 1996 trophy notably for a statue-of-liberty style dunk from the free throw line. The win is considered unexpected because Barry was the first and only Caucasian player to win the competition, and critics went as far to point out that Barry didn’t quite jump from the stripe, but rather a few inches ahead of it. Haters aside, Brent Barry’s dunk contest showing, which featured this Zoom Flight 95, was an iconic moment of that season that also included the Bulls’ 72-win championship season.
