The city of Amsterdam and the Nike Air Max 1 have been synonymous for the better part of 25 years. Over that time span, the folks at Patta have lent their creative vision to Tinker Hatfield’s iconic design, with the latest result being “The Wave,” a thematic capsule touching on the act of riding societal tides.
In anticipation of the sneaker and Air Max family’s 35th anniversaries, the Swoosh and Patta released a handful of pairs of the latest Air Max 1, which features an all-new wavy mudguard to harken back to the aforementioned theme. Predecessors donned “Noise Aqua,” Monarch,” “Rush Maroon” and “Black” hues, whereas the next installment of Patta’s “The Wave” project opts for a clean “White/Pure Platinum/Metallic Silver” ensemble.
The darkest of the sneakers’ three primary hues takes on the breathable mesh base layer, allowing for remaining components to divvy up contrasting tones. Traditional and updated overlays across the upper favor shades of “White,” though profile swooshes deviate in a stark silver that compliments the remainder of the shoe well. Co-branding appears throughout the shoe, while a non-standard miniature swoosh is embroidered onto the lateral forefoot. Underfoot, Patta adds an “aged” look to the Air Max’s sole unit, a design decision that not only satisfies consumers’ current interest in “Neo-vintage” footwear, but also nods to the team’s decades-old love for Hatfield’s creation from 1987. Furthermore, the slightly-yellowed midsole speaks to the test of time, a concept important to “The Wave” narrative. Akin to previous versions of the modified joint-effort, shoe boxes arrive with Patta branding; the bracelet included with other styles may have been excluded, however.
Enjoy product imagery of the pair ahead, as you wait to secure the shoes via Nike SNKRS soon and nike.patta.nl on August 26th.
