The concept of the “Sole Swap” is certainly nothing new. Just four years prior, following the dawn of Sean Wotherspoon’s Air Max 1/97, sneaker brands were creating many a hybrid from existing parts. What’s more, thanks to the likes of repair shops like recouture, we’ve seen all sorts of classics — think: Converse Chuck 70s, Nike Air Force 1s, and adidas Superstars — removed of their bottoms and fitted with soles typically reserved for the Goodyear Welted.
TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist, a label well-known known for subverting the norm, is taking the complete opposite approach with their upcoming collaboration with ASICS. Together, the two are recontextualizing the much-beloved Chelsea Boot, adding to it the more cushioned sole of the GEL-Quantum 360. And if not for the ASICS branding along the collar, it’s unlike one would be able to guess these ever came from the Japanese footwear brand at all.
For a closer look at the TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist x ASICS Gel-Quantum 360, see below. These are currently available now through select stockists at a retail of $280 USD.
In other news, a Todd Snyder New Balance 237 is landing soon.
