Although it was born in Massachusetts in the late 1800s, basketball has become a global sport. Ahead of the FIBA World Cup 2023, NIKE, Inc. has prepped an Air Jordan 38 to commemorate the international event, and sport’s reach.
First previewed in Paris during Brand Jordan’s Quai 54 tournament, the latest take on the newest Air Jordan features a clean color scheme. The multi-material upper opts for an off white tone that matches the International Basketball Federation’s simple logo well. The reworked “X” plate visible at the sole unit opts for a black finish that complements the near-“colorless” ensemble above. Golden accents appear via the Jumpman logos on the tongue and spine, while the right shoe features a sketch of the global tournament’s Naismith Trophy. Team USA has begun warming up for the competition, which begins on August 25th and runs until September 10th. Lastly, the mostly-herringbone traction underfoot rounds out the Jordan 38 “FIBA” with a semi-translucent makeup.
Enjoy official photos of the pair ahead. The FIBA-inspired basketball sneaker is priced at $200 USD and set to release via nike.com on September 7th.
