Jared Ebanks Designed to capture as much speed and separation from a defender as possible, Nike’s GT Cut series has brought the Beaverton brand’s mainline on-court constructions back to the height of the Hyperdunk era. Following a number of preview images that seemingly showcased the brand’s third installment, Nike has since confirmed the release of the Nike GT Cut 3.
Iconized for its use with the brand’s marquee racing solutions, the GT Cut 3 introduces a Zoom X cushioning system to the brand’s basketball offerings for the first time. Given the naturally large stack height of Zoom X, the silhouette’s designers worked meticulously to re-engineer the responsive foam for a low-to-the-ground court feel. As such, the midsole achieves a shorter stack height than that of its predecessor while also executing a lower overall weight.
Reinforced Flywire comes infused within the lightweight textile upper, providing lockdown containment at the mid-foot and forefoot while the lateral sidewall’s TPU component wrapping keeps the foot locked in above the footbed during quick, precise cuts. Underfoot, the Beaverton brand’s team of designers looked toward pressure mapping to best inform the placement of modified herringbone traction pods that hold the most amount of grip in high-contact areas.
For the first time in the GT series, the Beaverton brand will be unveiling a cost-efficient silhouette in the form of the GT Cut Academy. Initially revealed back in October, the low-top trim returns to the GT Cut 2’s use of a Zoom Air unit in the forefoot in tandem with a full-length Renew cushioned midsole.
Much like its last two iterations, the GT Cut 3 will extend into both grade school and preschool sizing, swapping out the Zoom X system for the banner’s tried and true Cushlon cushioning. The newest additions to the GT Cut franchise are expected to release in the Spring of 2024. In the meantime, both pairs can be seen below in detailed imagery.
