Shine In The Nike Air Max Plus “Reflective”

Another premium makeover of the 25-year-old design.

Shine In The Nike Air Max Plus “Reflective”

Sean McDowell’s Nike Air Max Plus is the gift that keeps on giving.

The sneaker has been celebrating its 25th anniversary in style, appearing in dozens of readily-available outfits and a handful of special collaborations. The Swoosh’s push of the original Tuned Air silhouette has brought unprecedented attention to the silhouette, surely enabling the Oregon-based design team to experiment unlike before. For its latest proposition, McDowell’s creation from 1998 has emerged with what appears to be padded nylon uppers. The pair abandons both the mesh base layer and gradient finishes for which it’s become so well known. Instead, the Air Max Plus opts for a white finish that sets the stage for an unexpected reflective arrangement.

Reflective details aren’t new to the Nike Tn, but the upcoming drop ups the ante by boasting a luminous finish across its upper’s textile and fabric components. Leather mudguards keep things “boring” with their off white color scheme. Sole units underfoot, however, breathe new life into the 25-year-old design, enjoying not only a non-standard swoosh at the toe cap, but also a non-visible Tuned Air and Air Max setup (cutouts are discernible, but the Airbags are seemingly “filled in”). A semblance of familiarity arrives across the Nike Running-inspired outsole, which favors a black and silver makeup that complements the upper’s reflective nature well.

Little is currently known about the pair’s inspiration as of this writing, but that’s likely to change in the coming months. While you wait, enjoy official photos of the special Air Max Plus ahead. Whenever the shoe hits nike.com, expect it to be priced at $185 USD, the standard MSRP for elevated takes on McDowell’s design.

In related sneaker news, the Air Jordan 4 “Bred Reimagined” is set to debut in early 2024.
