Though the New Balance 550 is only a few years into its renewed run, the sheer demand and resulting supply has expedited its life cycle. That is to say, while there’s still buzz around its original leather looks, they’re not as head turning as they once were, necessitating some experimentation on the silhouette. That’s exactly what we get with the just-released New Balance 550 “Sashiko Pack.”
Heavy textiles fully occupy the upper of both pairs, only broken up by a small swatch of suede at the collars. Off-white soles and patterned exposed foam tongues are the other uniting factors, that latter section doing the most narrative heavy lifting. It’s the askew canvas patch, exposed foam and visible stitching that there carry the “Sashiko” theme to its fullest extent, alluding to Japanese iconography and an atmosphere of being “rebuilt.” Choosing to execute natural tones of “Linen” and “Pecan” adds some finishing touches to the concept, closing out a serious uptake of one of New Balance’s most dominant offerings.
Both pairs in the New Balance 550 “Sashiko Pack” are available now via NewBalance.com for $120. You’ll find official product shots and respective “Where To Buy” sections just ahead; use the direct links to pick up yours.
