Things keep coming up #5. The launch of the adidas Anthony Edwards 1 Low added more positive reactions to what was already a rollicking start to his signature line. Because of that wide acclaim, the sneaker universe has been eagerly anticipating news on a potential AE2, heightened by leaked samples that adidas employees either reported to be scrapped or shot down entirely. Another look-see shoe just emerged in mysterious fashion.
While a bit tough to make out in these images, the insole does in fact read “Anthony Edwards Model No. 1,” adding credence to this being a preliminary sample of the Anthony Edwards 1 rather than a preview of the next step. Additionally, it bears the same “DON’T FOLLOW THE WAVE” motto that’s been omnipresent throughout the run of his first signature shoe. The pair pictured becomes a bit easier to comprehend with that in mind.
The bootie and throat of the shoe is almost identical to what’s currently on the market, sharing a V-shaped cut-out for the laces and a pronounced toe cap. Additionally, the outsole traction, while relying on more traditional herringbone patterns than the retail Anthony Edwards 1, carries an almost identical hourglass shape in the shrouded upper. While an overall futuristic aesthetic persists, the pair here of course is missing the eventual defining feature, the honeycomb pattern TPU siding.
Regardless of where this silhouette fans on the Anthony Edwards timeline, it provides some valuable insight into the design process and showcases the aesthetic principles adidas creatives may bring to whatever comes next. Get a closer look at this AE sample included just below.
