Nike is officially releasing this iconic, game-changing collaboration on November 9th, 2024 on SNKRS, and everything you need to know about this release is detailed here.
Where To Buy The Wu-Tang Dunk High
The Wu-Tang x Nike Dunk High is officially releasing on SNKRS and select Nike Sportwear retailers on November 9th, 2024 for $150. Due to the high demand for this sneaker, the SNKRS release will be a Draw. Retailers will also use raffles to release the shoes. Below is a store list with raffles that are open at this moment; enter as many as you can to maximize your chances of winning.
Brief History Of The Wu-Tang Dunk High
The Wu-Tang x Nike Dunk High originally surfaced in 1999. The shoes were created as a promo pair to celebrate Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), the collective’s game-changing album. It was never quite clear how many pairs made it out to the public; it was long believed to be 36 pairs, but close to 100 pairs were made and handed out to friends and family of Wu-Tang and Nike brass.
Over the years, the Wu-Tang x Nike Dunk High grew a mythology. In a time where sneakers rarely cracked the $1,000 in the open market, Wu-Tang Dunks easily surpassed those figures. One pair notoriously sold for $50,000 during the pandemic. I don’t think prices will return to those levels now that the shoe has releasing to the public.
How Nike Re-introduced The Shoe
In late June 2024, the official Instagram page of Nike Sportswear posted a video of the Wu-Tang Dunk High covered in a hive of bees. There was no context around the media, but given how this type of content rarely ever occurs from Nike’s official channels, fans were quick to assume that a re-release of the iconic shoe was all but confirmed.
On September 28th, 2024 at midnight EST, Nike finally released the shoe for the first time to the public via the brand’s notorious SHOCK DROP release. With a limited number of pairs available, only a select few who were quick to access the SNKRS App were able to purchase the shoes.
This early SHOCK DROP release whetted the appetites of sneaker heads even more. Still, a confirmed release date was still not yet disclosed. I myself tried to buy the shoes, but to no avail.
Following the SHOCK DROP, the Wu-Tang Clan unveiled an incredible promo box of the Dunks that included a co-branded t-shirt, a candle with the scent of bee honey, and a hexagonal shoe-box.
The only and only RZA signed the box, establishing that only true Friends And Family of the Clan and Nike would receive one of these units. Thus far, only Fat Joe has revealed that he was one of the lucky recipients.
RZA And The New York Knicks
On October 25th, 2024, Nike finally unleashed their official ad campaign for the return of the Wu-Tang Nike Dunk High with RZA and three members of the New York Knicks. The Wu-Tang figurehead was joined by Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges for a gritty photoshoot.
Nike also produced a fun video with the three teammates and a Wu-Tang ice cream truck featuring Stevie Guttman. Later that evening, Nike parked the ice cream truck in front of Madison Square Garden to give out out free ice cream and t-shirts to fans. I filmed the video below.
What To Expect For The Release
Given the significance of the Wu-Tang Nike Dunks, this release will be very difficult to win. As mentioned before, the releases will all be done through raffles, although some shops may have their own unique promos around the release. Please check with your local retailer for more details.
The design of the shoe is not entirely identical to the original 1999 Dunk; the 2024 version has a darker shade of yellow, while the Wu-Tang logo on the heel is slightly angled to the right.
