Updated October 9th, 2024: The pre-order for the Nike Air Max 1 “Low Poly” is now closed.
After touching on the Air Force 1 Low with its TINAJ concepts, Nike’s exploration of the virtual world through its dotSwoosh capsule has now landed on another classic – the Air Max 1. First debuting via a stream-like presentation with Kai Cenat in the custom set with low-poly inspired furniture pieces and objects, the Air Max 1 “Low Poly” now gets a closer spotlight through exclusive images by Sneaker News.
Leveraging the iconic “Sport Red” colorway of the 1987 silhouette, Nike has reconstructed the upper of Tinker Hatfield’s design with sharper edges to mimic the 3D polygonal aspect of. A pixelated color-shading is applied to the mudguard, quarter, and heel, taking the sneaker further into the world of 8-bit retro video games, while the Nike Air logo on the tongue arrives in that intentional low-res form. Even the uppermost plastic lace eyelets have been re-fixed with square-shaped pieces, ensuring that no detail was left unturned. Finally, the insoles feature a message in not-so-cryptic code, reading “If you’ve made it this far, go touch grass.”
To unveil the project, Nike dotSwoosh sent Sneaker News a special package mimicking a scientists desk and laboratory; housing the shoes, this custom box features actual LED lighting displays and a desk drawer filled with accessories and trinkets.
If these are a must-have for you, Nike dotSwoosh is releasing the Air Max 1 “Low Poly” on October 8th, 2024 via a pre-order for $150. The shoes are confirmed to ship roughly 120 days after the pre-order date.
