The latest Y-3 sneaker from Yohji Yamamoto is billed as “The iconic adidas Superstar [stripped] down to its purest essentials,” but that only tells a part of the story. First off, the Y-3 Smooth is actually more of a twist on the Pro Model, as it’s a hightop shelltoe, not the Superstar’s low. And while a stripped down Pro Model would reflect the basic shape of the shoe, it’s been utterly transformed along the sides, where the presence of an exteriorized heel support chops these in half and marries old school with Neo Tokyo. Check out some new images after the jump, let us know how the Smooth compares to other recent Yamamoto x Three Stripes releases, then grab yours straight from Y-3.
