On Friday, the UMBC Retrievers pulled off the greatest upset in the history of college basketball, becoming the first 16-seed in the NCAA Tournament to knock off a number one seed – the Virginia Cavaliers. Since the Retrievers are an Under Armour sponsored program, it did not take long for the Maryland-based brand’s top athlete – Steph Curry – to take notice of their historic accomplishment. To celebrate, the two-time MVP sent all of the UMBC players their own pair of the recently released UA Curry 5 “Pi Day” that dropped on March 14th in honor of Curry’s birthday. Only 314 pairs of the celebratory sneaker have hit retailers thus far, making the gift all the more special. Sadly, UMBC’s miracle run came to and end Sunday night, but they will have memories for a lifetime and some UA swag courtesy of the greatest shooter of all time to help them remember their unprecedented run.
