All week we have seen the Swoosh re-release a number of its fabled Doernbecher Freestyle designs in honor of 15 years of the incredible initiative, and tomorrow that is set to continue with Finnigan Mooney’s Nike SB Dunk High. Originally having dropped in 2012, this Dunk draws its inspiration from Finnigan’s bright personality and his unstoppably strong heart. Having gone through 13 heart surgeries, Finn still has a contagious personality that inspires his friends and family, taking shape on this sneaker via a thumb print on its outsole resemblant of two thumbs up given to his parents prior to each surgery. Further details include hand-drawn artwork on each insole as well as “THUMP THUMP” and an anatomically correct heart graphic super-imposed on its upper.
Currently a high school junior, Mooney is in good health and is a counselor-in-training at Merry’s Heart Camp, helping other children who have been through what he has experienced. When asked to describe the Doernbecher Freestyle program, he said it “is about giving back to the kids at Doernbecher who have been through so much in their early years of life.” Those looking to grab Finn’s Dunks will have the opportunity to do so via a draw on the Nike SNKRS app tomorrow, February 22nd, at 10am ET.
