Following in the footsteps of its overwhelmingly popular Bodega rendition, the New Balance 997S takes on color treatments plenty more bold than much of the Boston label’s mainline releases. Referencing retro mountaineering while still retaining its heritage DNA, the New Balance 997S bears a smooth mixture of neutrals with accent tones loud. Uppers, which, for the most part, are dyed mostly in their Rock Grey scheme, arrive with a varied assortment of material make-ups: heels take on an almost chainlink patterned Cordura fabrication while forward it cascades into smooth leathers, hairy suedes, and a rough textured twill. Toe boxes take on the same weather-resistant shell though doused in a much more colorful green shade, matching the lining and small support elements found right at the lower profile. Its amped-up soles retain their general imposing shape in triple black, splattered by hits of light paint and segmented by notable purple elements.
