Elliot Santiago Since the release of Virgil Abloh’s original “The Ten” collection with Nike, a unique power shift was casted down upon the sneaker industry in a way that almost lives up, if not surpasses the level of impact that Kanye West delivered when he was once signed with the Swoosh imprint. Besides the fact that sneakerheads were sent into a frenzy about trying to get their hands on any pair available, the shoes created a new space for sneaker design in a way that resulted in appreciation of an ethos of deconstructed thematics that are still being utilized across many Sportswear companies today. Possibly the most heralded of the assortment was Off-White’s partnership with the Jumpman, which after going on a successful streak with a handful of AJ1s, is now gearing up to add this upcoming Off White Jordan 5 colorway to its collaborative portfolio.
With the classic “Metallic Black” makeover utilized as the main source of inspiration, the iconic silhouette is reformed into a modernized rendition more emblematic of Abloh’s signature design language. Blueprint elements arrive by way of characteristics relative to a slightly translucent upper, circular windows added on the mid-foot caging, ankle collars and left side tongues, and his traditional Beaverton branding printed atop the medial regions. Moreover, tiny elements of classical nature are still kept intact, as the Jumpman logos arrive in Bulls-style red, the midsole spikes keeping their grey/black speckled decor, and the outsoles taking on a pre-yellowed look for some vintage flair. For those looking to pick up a pair of this 2020 Jordan Release, they will be releasing on Nike.com and at select retailers for $225 during NBA All-Star Weekend on February 15th.
