Ahead of warmer months, the Nike Air Max Plus has recently hit retailers in a tropical, multi-colored outfit. And while the ’98 model’s cult-following may be disappointed that this vibrant pair has only dropped in Kids’ sizes, it has been given much to admire. For starters, the rich blues at the forefoot that transition into a faded purple towards the heel resemble the twilight sky one might find at sunrise or sunset throughout the Summer. Vibrant shades of green and “University Gold” across Swooshes, tongues, collars, Tuned Air units, and outsoles offer not only visual company, but also thematic companionship as they evoke images of palm trees and a beaming Sun. Though timely, these tropical connections are inherent to the Air Max Plus given that industry-veteran Sean McDowell designed the shoe in 1997 while repeatedly thinking about the Florida beaches he frequented; TPU lines up top are inspired by swaying palm trees. Rounding out this nod to the hot and humid season, a pink and black wavy pattern is printed on the insoles.
