Near two years ago in March, Frog Skateboards presented one of the most playful Blazer Mid collaborations Nike SB had ever seen. And though their first-ever foray into sneakers, the imprint displayed a strong command over both color and graphic. Today, in 2021, founders/friends Chris Milic and Jesse Alba will be bringing that very same energy to Vans, dressing up both the Old Skool and Slip-On silhouettes.
Though it may seem unassuming in its Triple Black scheme, the Old Skool still overtly displays Frog Skateboard’s colorful brand of design. Contrast white stitch outlines the Jazz Stripe on which many a silicone charm is laid. Hearts, stars, crescent moons, and even a tiny friend stand in formation, hued with shades of pink, yellow, blue, and green respectively. The Slip-On takes many of the same themes to the next level as it interprets Vans iconic checkerboard print. Light oranges, lime greens, and darker purples fill in the squares at random, some accented further with simple “skateboards” text, florals, music notes, and even the odd ladybug.
In accessory to the footwear, Frog Skateboards has also curated a small range of apparel. Hoodies, tees, and hats feature the label’s signature MS Paint styled artwork alongside some nods to the aforementioned shoes.
