New Balance 1906L
The New Balance 1906L, or more simplistically, the New Balance loafer, is a reimagined silhouette designed by Charlotte Lee and launched by the brand in 2024.
Prompted by the blurred lines between performance wear and high fashion, as seen at Fashion Week runways throughout the 2020s, New Balance took their dominant 1906R model and used it as a jumping off point to enter that space. While the upper is reshaped to resemble a penny loafer, New Balance left the sole unit entirely untouched, allowing for a top/bottom split of those two opposing aesthetics.
A rush of colorways, including collabs like that with CAYL, trickled out throughout 2025 as the silhouette became an earnest part of the catalog. We’ve continued to see new editions come to light as we’ve entered 2026, with no end in sight for the Boston brand’s viral creation.
