Nike Zoom GT Cut

The Nike Zoom GT Cut 1 is an inline performance basketball shoe that was first introduced in 2021, one of three silhouettes that helped start the “Greater Than” line that now includes models like the GT Future.

While new silhouettes phase in and out of the Swoosh catalog frequently, the new hoops family was immediately notable for its souped-up tech packages. The GT Cut 1, in particular, balanced a low profile with a three-headed cushioning layout of React foam, a full-length Air Zoom strobel, and Zoom Air in the heel. A TPU torsion bar and rubber brace at the forefoot assisted with containment, fitting given that the “Cut” was tooled for quick players who slash to the hoop. Speaking of, the GT (“Greater Than”) family was presented to the public as a result of directly speaking with the Swoosh’s stable of endorsed athletes, with Sabrina Ionescu connected explicitly to the model at hand.

The Nike Zoom GT Cut 1 would eventually leave shelves after about a year, ceding space to later steps in the line, the GT Cut 2 and GT Cut 3, the latter spinning off into halfway steps like the GT Cut 3 Turbo or the GT Cut Academy. However, the original design lingered in the minds of players as one of the best-regarded modern Nike Basketball designs. Case in point, original pairs would become genuinely coveted on the resale market (particularly in Asian markets), with select colorways nearing triple their retail value.

That consumer connection led Nike to buck its usual strategy and fast-track a retro effort for the Nike GT Cut 1, reviving the design true to the OG build. Novel and bring-back editions now surface consistently every few weeks, hitting Nike.com and partnering retailers shortly after. Though specs may remain the same from what we saw in 2021/22, the price has been increased since then: the GT Cut 1 now commands a $190 MSRP.
