Italian athletic brand Diadora never became as big a name here in the US as European competitors adidas, Puma or Reebok, owing in large part to their emphasis on soccer over basketball. This means that while they share quite a bit in common with some of the era’s best known hits, the Diadora Mi Basket hightop designed for Olympia Milano in 1984 has been all but forgotten by the vast majority of sneakerheads. Then again, it’s not to terribly difficult to imagine Nike Sportswear authoring a Terminator Deconstruct that’d turn out quite similarly, so this fall 2012 drop is likely to find its fair share of fans even if they hadn’t known to expect its classic charm.
