Nike Flyknit Independent Olympic Athlete 2

The 2012 Olympic Athlete Introduction By Country is a nice geography lesson for those not well-versed in the where’s what of the world, but there are a few notable athletes participating in this year’s games who don’t quite fall under one nation. Four competing athletes will put forth their efforts under the Olympic Flag, as their home countries do not have Olympic National Committees. The four athletes are: Philipine van Aanholt (sailing), Lee-marvin Bonevacia, Reginald de Windt, and marathon runner Guor Marial. Marial’s story is rather interesting as he currently does not hold a passport from any country; he is a permanent resident of the United States (refugee status green card), but he is unable to compete for the States, South Sudan, or Sudan.

Nike Sportswear has created a special footwear and apparel capsule for this select group of athletes; it includes the Lunar Flyknit Trainer made with the five Olympic colors, as well an M-65 Jacket and a scarf (the scarf was made specifically for the athletes from Netherlands Antilles). You can see these four special athletes wear the Flyknit as well as a complete collection of Nike Sportswear apparel during the ceremonies and events throughout the Games, but continue on for a nice shot of the Flyknit model below.
