It’s been quite a year for the New Balance 9060, further stamping itself as one of the more dominant lifestyle offerings on the market as Boston creatives truly went wild with the silhouette, spreading its wings far beyond the tonal fare that marked its early run on the market. Smart money is on the mashup runner continuing that momentum in 2025, as there’s still plenty meat left on the bone as far as new color-blocking schemes, highlighted by the novel schema demonstrated by the pair at hand.

Our readers and New Balance fans at large should be readily familiar with the foundation of this shoe, a combination of off-white and slate that borders New Balance’s trademark neutral looks (see their yearly “Grey Day” installations.) However, as our title promises, the major development is tacking on bold red swatches of suede on the mudguard, weaving below nubuck interruptions at the quarter and heel yet still adding a ton of energy in the process.

Were this pair revealed any earlier, we’d be willing to stamp these as a definitive holiday-themed edition, but the concept applies equally well without that inspiration, a vibrant twist on what’s made the New Balance 9060 so inescapable in the first place.

The New Balance 9060 is expected as a part of NB’s Spring slate, retailing for the typical $150 MSRP.
