As you’ve no doubt noticed by now there’s a less-than-subtle inspiration floating around in the backstory of the Nike LeBron X. That inspiration would be diamonds, with the milestone tenth sneaker transferring the formation process of that precious stone into an extended metaphor for King James’ career. Nike just dropped a new video that’s a bit more explicit about said inspiration, in which LeBron himself explains recent colorways. The ‘Blue Diamond’ represents LeBron’s on court electricity, that type of stone being formed when electricity comes in contact with a diamond. The Heat away pair is the ‘Pressure’, representing the added stress of those frequent road trips. Finally the ‘Cutting Jade’ stands as a tribute to the Chinese art of cutting jade with diamond.
