Gary Payton Discusses Future Releases at Nike Headquarters

Gary Payton Nike Sportswear

2013 is going to be one helluva year for 90’s basketball fans who adored the Seattle Supersonics (and later, just Sonics). Why? Because the franchise’s two most iconic players in Gary ‘The Glove’ Payton and Shawn ‘Reignman’ Kemp will have their best sneakers re-issued this year. Along with Reebok’s comeback with the upcoming Kamikaze II, Nike Basketball is set to retro the Nike Zoom Flight ’98 (simply referred to as ‘The Glove‘) which is now confirmed by GP to be an October 2013 release.

Recently, Gary Payton was at Beaverton’s Nike HQ in a meeting with Nike Sportswear’s Gentry Humphrey and Marc Dolce to discuss the future of The Glove, but that only has us wondering if Payton’s line will receive any sort of Penny/Barkley treatment in terms of Retros, new colorways, and perhaps a hybrid model somewhere down the line. Outside of the Glove, nothing’s been confirmed yet (although we should point out the Nike Air Zoom Payton II, Air Zoom Payton III, Air Zoom Payton IV, and another classic from that era in the Nike Air Hawk Flight and Nike Air Maestro ’96 on that glorious table spread). Your thoughts on the future of the Nike Glove line? Chime in below.
