Jordan Brand’s upcoming “Slam Dunk” Pack is a perfect example of mutual admiration coming full circle. When Japanese manga artist, Takehiko Inoue, created the 1990s series “Slam Dunk”about a high school basketball team, he honored Michael Jordan by modeling the team’s uniforms after the Chicago Bulls gear and then went one step further by outfitting main character, Hanamichi Sakuragi, in the iconic Air Jordan VI model. The inclusion of the beloved shoe helped Slam Dunk gain notoriety beyond manga fans, making it something of a cult phenomenon in sneaker circles around the world as well.
Now as part of the Year of the VI celebration, Jordan Brand is returning the love by immortalizing the Slam Dunk series with an enticing sneaker duo that not only pays tribute to the comic, but even incorporates actual artwork into the designs by way of a reflective print. In order to tell a past and present story, the Air Jordan VI features classic artwork from the Slam Dunk pages, while the Super.Fly 3 shows new sketches of a current-day Sakuragi still training and working on his game. Continue on for Week 7 of Monday Night Preview and look out for the shoes to releases, alongside apparel, on 11/1.
The Air Jordan “Slam Dunk” Collection releases in the U.S. on November 1st at select Jordan Brand retailers.
