adidas Originals spent most of their Spring 2015 campaign defining what a modern day superstar is. With numerous bold takes on the adidas Superstar 80s model and an actual superstar serving as an unofficial creative director for many of the collections in Pharrell Williams, the campaign was definitely a memorable one. Now the three stripes are entering a darker space with their latest ad, one that features a Hans Zimmer-esque orchestral soundtrack, black and white talking heads, and a vague monologue about the burden of being creative.
I’m surrounded my opinions. They come in all forms. Numbers, pictures, sounds. But they can’t sway me. I am my own standard. Comments and reviews can measure popularity, but can never measure my courage. A room full of applause will never make my sacrifice any more or any less. These numbers will never know how to justify the risk or the guts to bring my vision to life. I create for myself. I create for an audience of one.
