Miami-based sneaker shop Shoe Gallery reaches back to a little local history for their take on the Reebok Ventilator for its year of collabs, presenting the “El Mariel” edition in white patent leather. Inspired by the mass emigration from Cuba to the the USA that brought approximately 125,000 Cubans to Miami in 1980 after Fidel Castro’s regime allowed citizens to leave the country (known as the Mariel Boatlift), the Ventilator features a shiny white upper with a blue interior, mimicking the look of a boat. More nautical details come in the form of an anchor underneath the translucent outsole and boat registration number style text on the heels with “FL” for Florida, “305” for Miami’s area code, and “US” for the United States. The Shoe Palace x Reebok Ventilator “El Mariel” launches September 5th at global Reebok Certified Network retailers.
