Nike Basketball’s Black History Month Collection will be found on-court throughout today’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Showcase. Nike wanted to go beyond basketball with this year’s collection, which is why the brand enlisted two-time Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist Rober Glasper to compose a new song, “Be Courageous”, for the occasion. The composition honors Kobe Bryant‘s historic 20-year NBA career and is accompanied by a unique short film that showcases key moments in Bryant’s journey to becoming one of the game’s greatest players. Glasper chose a unique 4/4 and 6/8 time signatures to honor the date that MLK was assassinated – April 4th, 1968. Be sure to watch the film and listen to the song below.
The Nike Kobe 11 “BHM” is available from select shops today.
