Nike continues to blur the once clearly-defined lines between function and fashion with their new performance silhouettes like the Zoom Fly and the Epic React, shoes that look just as good in the streets as they perform during a workout. The latest shoe to offer a unique cross of style and performance is the interesting EXP-X14, a futuristic-looking sneaker that was first unveiled last week.
Nodding to Nike’s rich running heritage while still pushing the envelope of technology, the EXP-X14’s translucent upper is a modern-day take on the Nike Zoom Drive, a running silhouette from the mid 90s. The midsole boasts an exposed yellow TPU plate and a slim heel design that nod to the ultra-fast Zoom Vaporfly 4%. Even the shoe’s name is packed full of Nike lore, as “EXP” is short for experiment, and X14 is the original internal Nike code name for React cushioning technology, which appears in the shoe’s midsole. The numbers printed on the shoe’s medial side represent the legendary Steve Prefontaine’s fastest time in the mile—3 minutes and 54.6 seconds—and the shoe is completed with bold Flywire cables and a unique high heel and low ankle color adorned with a small swoosh.
The shoe is set to release in three colorways (blue/volt, rose gold/gold and black/red) all with bright and bold accents on June 28th in Europe via the SNEAKERS app before rolling out to North America and Greater China July 6th via SNKRS and Nike.com. Enjoy a set of images for the futuristic shoes below, and let us know what you think of the continued modern-day fusion of lifestyle and performance silhouettes.
