Dan “Mache” Gamache is one of the most well-known sneaker customizers in the world today. Virgil Abloh is undoubtedly Nike’s most important and revered creative partner at the moment. Both are at the top of their respective fields, and now their aesthetics have collided-with a little design inspiration from the artistic stylings of one Piet Parra.
Mache recently took to his Instagram to unveil a custom pair of “Carolina” Off-White Air Jordan 1s done up in the same colorful striped/dotted scheme that Parra recently used for his highly desired Air Max 1s and Zoom Spiridons. The shoes feature Parra-style patterns around the collar, heel, and toe, while the cloud detailing from the Dutch artist’s friends and family Air Max 1s adorns the medial quarter panel on each sneaker. The combination of Parra’s bright mix of colors and Abloh’s signature deconstructed look/bold Helvetica font hits is striking to say the least, bringing two wildly different aesthetics together in a unique fashion. These beautiful custom shoes are a one-off, so don’t expect to see pairs hit the market any time soon-but you can enjoy a full look at the unique kicks below.
