With much of the first three quarters of 1990s Nike Basketball relatively covered on the retro front, the Swoosh is looking toward the new millennium of footwear as part of their full-fledged revival of their archive. The distinct aesthetic is also informing some of Nike Sportswear’s newer offerings as well, with the recently revealed Nike Zoom 2K garnering some interesting looks from curious onlookers. There’s a clear late-1990s/early 2000s attitude about the shoes. You can somehow picture these on a Suns-era Jason Kidd, because the miniaturized logos, aggressive curves, protruding pods, and even the lettering on the lace hoops are all reminiscent of that unforgettable era of Nike hoops. On the J-Kidd note: Nike, please bring back the Afterburner, Zoom Turbine, and the Zoom Flight 2K3.
The Zoom 2K, however, is intended for lifestyle use. It’s like a well-executed basketball version of the M2K Tekno because it’s clearly trying to spill into chunky/technical wear while masking the slip-on bootie construction. Several colorways for men and women are set to release on December 26th for around $90, so check out a first look at three men’s colorways below and take a gander at the women’s Nike Zoom 2K versions as well.
