The year is 1993. Michael Jordan has completed his first three-peat with the Chicago Bulls, averaging a dominant 41 PPG in the Finals against the Phoenix Suns. The popular Air Jordan 8 was on his feet, and Nike’s Air Raid 2 — a shoe designed with outdoor play in mind — was appearing on blacktops across the country. Now in 2018, Nike is set to revisit that fabled time with the “Urban Jungle” Air Jordan 8, a shoe that features a colorway inspired by the aforementioned Air Raid 2. Both designed by Tinker Hatfield and featuring crisscrossing straps, the silhouettes already had a lot in common — but now they’re taking it to the next level. A combo of black nubuck and mesh makes up the majority of the shoe, while a bold abstract pattern of purple, yellow, green, and red from the Air Raid 2 that’s unmistakably ’90s appears on the midfoot’s plastic piece. A tri-colored tongue adds a further pop of flair, and a green sockliner then completes the look. If you’re a fan of these commemorative AJ8s, you can expect them to release December 22nd for $190 USD.
