The Nike Air Safari “Atmos” Returns With Blue Suede

The Nike Air Safari “Atmos” Returns With Blue Suede

The symbiotic relationship between Nike Sportswear and legendary Tokyo-based boutique atmos has spawned some of the most iconic footwear collaborations ever. All the way back in 2003, atmos combined two classic Tinker Hatfield creations by imparting the design ethos and materials of the Air Safari onto the Air Max 1. 15 years later in 2018, the Swoosh Brand returned the homage by dressing the Safari in a colorway inspired by atmos’s “Safari” Air Max 1 — creating an interesting homage cycle of sorts. Now, the roots of inspiration are set to go a little bit deeper: Nike has taken the Atmos-colored Safari and added OG “Sport Blue” accents — the likes of which you’d see on the original Air Max 1 colorway — for a flash of alternate flair. Everything from the canvas uppers to the tan/burnt orange tones to the classic textured print is left intact, but sporty blue detailing arrives on both the mudguard and the heel to add even further to the already-layered look. That’s not all though: the Beaverton brand also has a similar version with red suede uppers on the way, a nod to a Safari Air Max sample from 2009. Check out the history-packed kicks in detail below, and look for a release later this year at select NSW retailers.
